Modern Times

I didn't expect to really enjoy the film Modern Times because first of all it was a silent film and second of all it was in black and white. After learning about the life of Charlie Chaplin, I realized why he produced, wrote, and directed these films. The meanings behind every single part of the movie had an even more greater meaning to it. The entire movie contained metaphors that was part of an even greater metaphor on the future and the misery of people then and later in the future. I really enjoyed the scenes where Chaplin was a factory worker because it portrayed such an significant lesson that revealed itself as being eaten alive by the machine and spit back out only to become crazy. It was amazing that way Chaplin played out this movie in such a sophisticated and yet hysterical way. Chaplin managed to cover up what he really wanted to say through comedy and a simple image or scene in the background which I found to be genius and clever. I especially loved how he would simply have the amass energy to perform through out the movie. My breath was taken away when Chaplin began to sing in a sort of French or Italian language which fascinated me on how he managed to do such an amazing talent. Full of talents Charlie Chaplin was an incredible person in every way possible.
